Welcome to Johnnie Johnson Housing and Astraline
“Be bold, be brave, be courageous.”
Our founder, Johnnie Johnson lived by those principles, and in turn, created that culture within the organisation that remains with us today - he never shirked a challenge and neither do we.
We are proud to be part of a network of Armed Forces ‘champions’ and we are encouraging all Housing Associations to sign up to the Armed Forces Covenant, supporting veterans and their families. This means that no veteran nor their family should be discriminated against in accessing homes. It also means that we help veteran residents source financial support as well as furniture through the relevant charities with whom we have some really strong links.
At JJH, we are passionate about advocating for and supporting those coming out of the forces, whether that be helping them find a home or employment. We warmly encourage job applications from anyone with connections with the Armed Forces.

Johnnie Johnson, a war-time hero
Johnnie Johnson, a war-time hero and RAF flying ace, formed his housing business back in 1969 and this is where our history began. In 2018 we signed the Armed Forces Covenant, along with other Greater Manchester Housing Providers, and we have been presented with the Armed Forces Silver Award under the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.
As part of our pledge to the Armed Forces Covenant, for any external vacancy, we guarantee an interview for any veterans that meet the essential criteria set on in the role profile. We also fully support our colleagues who are volunteering as reservists, by accommodating their training obligations.
Johnnie Johnson Housing is a not-for-profit housing association dedicated to offering quality and affordable homes in the North of England. We currently have a portfolio of almost 5,000 homes, which are used by our 7,000+ customers.
We are also proud to promote Astraline,
a division of Johnnie Johnson Housing
Astraline is a national technology-enabled care provider that uses digital technology to enable residents to live more independently in their own homes.
We work with some fantastic colleagues.

We know it can be daunting to move from a role within the armed forces to a civilian role, but we’d like to reassure you that we absolutely value the skills, the experience and customer perspective you’ll bring to our organisation. We have excellent wellbeing initiatives that will support your transition into a civilian role, alongside some great coaches and mentors who will be there to develop and grow your skills and knowledge.
Our Vacancies and Colleague Benefits
We have a wide variety of roles that will suit colleagues leaving the armed forces, with positions in ICT, Finance, Communications and Marketing as well as the customer-facing roles such as Community Housing Officers. No matter where anyone sits within the organisation, we all strive to provide the same outstanding customer service to our residents.
We have some great colleague perks, ranging from retail discounts to benefits and resources that support health and wellbeing.
